Typort — Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 11, 2026
The short version: Typort runs on your own computer. Your dictation is
transcribed on your device and never leaves it — unless you turn on a cloud feature
(sync, cloud AI cleanup, personal-model training, or shareable recordings). Those are opt-in,
we tell you plainly when data leaves your machine, and you can ask us to delete anything we hold.
Who we are
Typort is made by Human Compute, LLC, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. This policy covers
the Typort desktop app, the Typort Vault browser extension, and the optional cloud services behind
them.
What stays on your device (the default)
By default, Typort is local-first. When you dictate:
- Your audio is transcribed on your own computer by a local speech model.
The audio and the resulting text are not sent anywhere.
- Recordings are saved locally so you can re-run a transcription. Only the 15
most recent are kept — older ones are deleted automatically as you dictate.
- Your transcriptions and any corrections you make are stored locally to improve accuracy
for you. They stay on your machine unless you opt into training (below).
If you never enable a cloud feature, none of your dictation, audio, or text leaves your device.
What is sent to the cloud — only when you turn it on
Some features are optional and send data off your device. Each is opt-in and clearly labelled
in the app:
- Cloud sync / Context Vault. If you enable it, the items you choose to sync
(for example your captured AI conversations or dictation history) are stored on our servers
so you can search them across devices. This data is tied to your account.
- Cloud AI cleanup, polish, fact-check, and meeting insights. If you pick the
cloud model instead of the on-device one, the specific text being processed is sent to our
AI provider to generate the result, which is then returned to you. Choose the local model
and this stays on your device.
- Personal model training. If you start a training run, the voice samples and
corrections you consent to are uploaded so we can train a model that understands your voice,
then delivered back to you.
- Beam recordings. If you create a shareable screen recording, the video is
uploaded to our storage so the share link works. You control who you give the link to.
The browser extension (Typort Vault)
The Typort Vault extension captures your conversations from supported AI platforms (ChatGPT,
Claude, Perplexity, Grok) into your browser's local storage, and only reads pages on those
platforms. Captured items stay in your browser unless you turn on cloud sync above.
Service providers we use
When a cloud feature is on, we rely on:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting and storage for synced data, training,
and recordings (United States).
- AI model providers (such as Anthropic and OpenAI) — to process the specific
text you send for a cloud AI feature and return your result, under their own terms.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your private dictation content to advertise
to you.
How long we keep it
- Local recordings: only the 15 most recent are kept — older ones are deleted automatically as you dictate.
- Cloud-synced data, training samples, and recordings: kept until you delete them or ask us to.
Your choices and deleting your data
- Local data is under your control — clear it in the app or by uninstalling.
- Cloud data — to delete anything we hold for you (synced items, training
data, recordings), email us at adam@humancompute.com
and we will delete it from our servers.
- Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access,
correct, or delete your data, and to ask us not to sell it (we don't). Email us to exercise them.
The website
Our marketing website (typort.com) may use standard analytics and advertising pixels to measure
how people find us. These are part of the website only — they do not see your dictation or app data.
Children's privacy
Typort is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy we'll change the date above, and for material changes we'll tell you in
the app.
